About the project

A shared access point for Namibian soil information.

A professional but approachable resource for farmers, environmental managers, soil scientists, researchers and GIS practitioners.

Project overview

Purpose

The project brings together legacy laboratory data, field descriptions, maps, published and unpublished documents, a quality-controlled national soil profile database, the new 1:250 000 National Soil Map and new 90 m predicted soil-property distributions.

Where practical, visitors will be able to download raw and standardised data, report and presentation images, shapefiles, GeoTIFFs, profile photographs and original model code. Existing permanent records will continue to link to Zenodo, with selected material also hosted here for convenient access.

Principles

  • Useful to specialists and broader land-management audiences
  • Clear distinction between current and future dataset versions
  • Consistent descriptions, previews and download actions
  • Static map access first, with interactive mapping later
  • Portable website files that can be maintained and migrated
  • Accessible navigation across desktop and mobile devices
